Read GuideCulture Notes
Aussie culture is famously laid-back, but they take their coffee, sports, and nature very seriously.
- No Worries: It's the national motto. Relax, be friendly, and treat everyone like a "mate".
- Coffee Rules: Filter coffee won't cut it here. Order a "Flat White" or a "Long Black" at local independent cafes.
- Sun Safety: The Australian sun is fiercely strong. Always "Slip, Slop, Slap" (Slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen, slap on a hat).
When to go?
Dec – Feb (Summer)
Hot & Sunny. Perfect for Southern beaches (Sydney, Melbourne), but tropical north (Cairns) is in wet season.
Mar – May (Autumn)
Mild and pleasant everywhere. Fantastic for wine regions and festivals.
Jun – Aug (Winter)
Cool down south, but this is the absolute best time (dry season) to visit the Outback and the Great Barrier Reef.
